Other People's Heartache

I've decided to run with my "history" (hey, one post means a precedent!) of posting music on here, because I've found I desperately need an outlet for all of my INTENSE MUSIC FEELINGS. All caps means greater truth, right?

It's finals week for me, and thus my music consumption rates are at an all-time high. A good deal of it is nostalgic (delving back into the Japanese rock period I had as a pre-teen/teen in mid-'00s... Plastic Tree? Still good.) or just stuff stuck in my head (Frank Ocean, man, channel ORANGE has some serious earworms)...

But lately, I've been hooked on a new EP out by Bastille called Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2. I'm also going to talk about Other People's Heartache, Pt. 1 which came out earlier this year, because both parts are fantastic. The best way to describe what BASTILLE is doing is mash-ups of covers - often incredibly unexpected and peppered with film or other pop culture references.

There's something jarring about a posh British-accented male voice singing in this dramatic cover of "What Would You Do?" by City High:

or this spacey, moody mash-up of, of all things, "Requiem for a Dream" and Lana Del Rey:

This post is getting a little lengthy and I've got a lot of favorite tracks from Part 2, so I guess I'll split the two for now.

You can stream both whole EPs here on SoundCloud and they are available for download here on their official website.

can't take my eyes off of you

oh my god, that old post about Super Junior from 2007. Literally nothing has changed in nearly five years.

... Just kidding. Anyway, blogger forces me to log on to comment on pretty ladies' fashion blog posts, so in case someone somehow ends up back here, I wanted there to be something more... er, current.

Here, have a song. Anthony Neely is a Taiwanese-American mandopop singer with a gorgeous voice (and a nice face to boot). His cover of Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" is incredible.

Well then.

I guess this is the beginning. What's a good song about beginnings?

... All I can think of is Super Junior. I NEED TO STOP LISTENING TO THEM, REALLY.

Sorry for the n00btastic first post, but I really have no idea what to write at the moment.
